Eric Gaskell – Canal Linocut Prints (Monday 2 April – 31 May)

Museum at Night (Friday 18 May 7-9 p.m.)
Visitors can meet some of the real-life canal characters behind our exhibits in a Museum tour by torchlight. Delivered with the help of performing arts students at Gloucestershire College and Museum volunteers.

We open the Museum at night for a drinks and canapés reception with visitors entertained by musical performances from ‘Dark Island’ folk group (alexlouisewest@yahoo.co.uk).
Tour the Museum by torchlight.
Olympic Torch Celebrations (Weekends of 12-13 May and 19-20 May)
The Olympic torch will be visiting Gloucester Docks on 24 May. We are giving our younger visitors the chance to make their own Olympic Torch to wave during the procession.

Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Celebrations (Saturday 2 to Sunday 10 June)
Our Museum and boats will be adorned with bunting.
Children will be able to make their own crowns (all week).
Tea and cakes Jubilee cruises will be scheduled throughout the week (£7.50 adult, £5.50 child).
Jubilee celebrations with Victorian games and dressing up for the children.
Mikron Theatre Company – celebrates 40 years of Mikron Poster Art (July, August and September)

School summer holidays (Saturday 21 July – Sunday 2 September)
Weeks 1 and 2: Have a go at brass rubbing using canal related brasses
Weeks 3 and 4: Make your own skipping rope using traditional rope-making equipment.
Weeks 5 and 6: Storytelling. Learn how and why canals were built during this interactive story using sand and models.
August: Jonathon’s Jungle visits the Museum with his menagerie of bugs and creatures (date tbc)
August: Muddy Waters book signing (tbc)
Lock 200 Project (Saturday 8 September)
Join in the 200 year celebration of the opening of Gloucester Lock. Events all day at the Museum, on the Quayside and around the Docks.
The Big Draw (Saturday 20 October – Sunday 28 October)
Lots of arty activities as the Museum will be taking part in the national ‘Big Draw’.
Roses and Castles Canal Art Course: our canal artist will stage a weekend course for adults who want to learn the traditional art of ‘roses and castles’ painting. (Date tbc).

Museum Takeover Day (Saturday 11 November)
Young people will be given the opportunity to take over the running of the Museum for a day as part of this national initiative.
Christmas cruises (Saturday 8 December – Monday 24 December )
Santa will be in his on board grotto. All children get a present and everyone gets a 45 min cruise with Santa. Mince pies and drinks on board. FREE museum entry with ticket. (weekend of 8 December, and 15 – 24 December inclusive)
Christmas Carvery cruises: Christmas lunch on board the King Arthur pleasure boat. 2 hour canal cruise
Christmas disco cruise: party the night away with Christmas dinner and discos. 4 hour cruise on the River Severn.
Regular monthly events
Artists club: Every 2nd Tuesday in the month our resident artist will run our art classes. All welcome. Book in advance. From 13 March
Knitting Circle: Every 3rd Wednesday in the month our crafter volunteers will run knitting lessons. All welcome. All abilities. Book in advance. 2 – 4.00 p.m. from 21 March.
