Tug Severn Progress

The tug Severn Progress was built in 1931 at Bristol by Charles Hill & Sons. Launched as Progress the prefix Severn was added later.

Severn Progress was used for towing barges on the Severn from Gloucester to Worcester and Stourport. Work on the Severn began to decline from the late 1960s and then the tug was sent to work on the restoration of the Kennet & Avon Canal between Hanham Lock and Bath. On completion of this work the Severn Progress returned to Gloucester to be looked after by the Friends of the museum.
