Uniquely there are exactly one hundred bridges over the
River Severn and this interesting book by Chris Witts, lists, with pictures,
every bridge that currently crosses the longest river in Great Britain.
Sian Lloyd, the ITV Weather Presenter, regularly drives across the Severn
Estuary from London to Cardiff. She has written a foreword in the book,
praising the construction of the new Second Severn Crossing. Sian, however,
prefers the old stone bridges found in the wilds of Scotland and Wales.
Also featured in the book are chapters on our past great bridge designers and
builders, notable historic bridges and a glossary of technical terms.
Each bridge is shown with its Ordnance Survey grid reference number which will
make it easier to find, as some of the bridges over the Severn are located in
isolated areas.
