Severn Bore.
Marathon Swim from Beachley to Sharpness

15th August 2010

Brave Rob Burrows swam in atrocious conditions from Beachley to Sharpness to mark SARA’s 25th anniversary. He took slightly over two hours to swim with the tide from the Severn Area Rescue Association lifeboat station at Beachley to their station at Sharpness.

He was accompanied by two lifeboats, one travelling in front of him to remove any debris from his path. 30 year old Rob is a member of the lifeboat crew and a keen Severn surfer so is used to these waters.

It was a day of celebrations at both Beachley and Sharpness lifeboat stations. Including demonstrations by lifeboats out on the Severn, a boat jumble, hot food at the BBQ, plus lots of other things to interest the many visitors who came to enjoy themselves in the sunshine. Even Chris Witts was there with his wife Susan selling copies of his new book, SEVERN BRIDGE DISASTER - 25th October 1960.
