Lady Apsley watches the bore for the first time

BBC Radio Gloucestershire recently asked many distinguished people of Gloucestershire to name places or things they had not seen in their county. Both Lady Sara Apsley and BBC radio warden Roland Blackwell admitted that they had never seen a Severn Bore!

Although 2008 does not have any good bore predictions, today did produce a 2 star bore. Thus Lady Apsley and Roland Blackwell met BBC journalist Ian Chaloner and Severn historian Chris Witts on Over Bridge at Gloucester.

The problem with seeing a bore for the first time is that it rarely lives up to what you expect to see and it is over too quick. The secret is to go again and again and to different locations along the course of the Severn Bore. That way you begin to get the feel of it and an understanding of what all the fuss is about.
