| Following
a day of rain on Friday 20th July when 90mm of rain fell on Gloucester, the
River Severn flooded! Tewkesbury, a small market town some 12 miles upstream of
Gloucester was cut off. The Mythe waterworks, across the meadow from the town
was flooded and ceased production. This has meant that fresh water ran out for
Gloucester, Cheltenham and Tewkesbury with over 340,000 properties
affected. Two major electric sub stations at Gloucester were in danger of being flooded and Fire Services from all over England came to Gloucester to assist with stopping the water entering both plants. They were assisted by both the Navy and RAF. Indeed the RAF sent several Air Sea Rescue helicopters into the area to rescue people trapped by the rising floodwater. Today is the 4th day without water and it hurts!! Severn/Trent Water say it could be up to 2 weeks before water is restored to households. We will never take water for granted again......................... |
