Ironbridge Gorge Requires £100M

Engineers from the Borough of Telford & Wrekin are claiming that about £100M is needed to prevent problems at the famous Ironbridge Gorge. Again it is subsidence that are the cause of problems.

This area historically has suffered from subsidence since the 18th century, the first one recorded in 1773. During this era the region was mined and waste was tipped here. Add to that flooding from the Severn and land instability then little wonder there were problems.

Ironbridge Gorge is a World Heritage site and attracts 2.5 million visitors each year.
