Unseasonal Weather leads to Floods |
| June 2007 has been recorded as the wettest one in history. April was a record month with very little rain and then May appeared! With it much rain which has continued into June. It was inevatable therefore that all this rain would lead to a rise in the level of the River Severn. At Upton upon Severn the temporary flood barriers have been erected yet again. Further down at Tewkesbury the town is surround by flood water from the River Severn and River Avon. Tirley, a small village midway between Gloucester and Tewkesbury, also suffered from flooding from the Severn. |

Haw Bridge at Tirley clearly shows the fresh water coming down the Severn. At this time of year many people have planned to travel along the Severn in their boats. Hire companies must be suffering as they see their boats laid up and no doubt having to reimburse the hirers with their money. Gloucester Lock has to close the flood gates thus stopping any craft from being out on the river. |

Many water courses lead into the River Severn. These normally flood first! On Monday 25th June a record amount of rain fell across England causing flooding everywhere. One city affected was Gloucester and only less than a mile from the Severn Tales Weather Station a number of house were flooded. The houses back onto a stream that eventually finds its way into the Severn. The level rose rapidly last Monday and soon the houses were flooded. For the latest weather visit: Severn Tales Weather |
