18 Redundancies by British Waterways

As winter approaches British Waterways plan to cut 18 jobs along the Gloucester & Shaprness Canal and the River Severn.

There will be a zoned system for operating bridges and locks, with individuals being responsible for up to five bridges.

Vessels wishing to use the canal and Severn during the winter months will have to pre book their trip 24 hours in advance and book on a Friday for weekend movements.

British Waterways staff were informed of this decision last week, but none were told who would be made redundant. Obviously there are lot of worried staff at Gloucester, some saying, "It will not work"!
