World surfing record broken on the Severn

Gloucestershire's surfer, Steve King, has shattered the world surfing record after riding the bore continually for 7.6 miles.

He rode the bore for 1 hour and 17 minutes with crowds of up to 6,000 lining the banks and cheering him all the way.

Only last June a Brazilian, Serginho Laus snatched the world record from Gloucester man Dave Lawson when he rode a bore for 6.3 miles on the Araguari River in Brazil. Dave Lawson's record of 5.7 miles achieved on the Severn had been held for some considerable time.

Steve, from Saul, rode the wave with pals from the Severn Bore Surfers Club on Thursday 6th April.
