New Bridge Across the Severn

Today another section of the long awaited Gloucester South West Bypass opened to traffic. This section crosses Over Causeway, with a new bridge crossing the Severn at the junction with Llanthony Road.

Construction work began on this section in 2002 causing some concern to local residents. The new road crosses a vast flood plain and it is feared that flooding may be worse now that the road is completed.

One last section of the bypass remains to be built, from Hempsted Bridge to Cole Avenue, however funding is still in doubt. Gloucester County Council is currently trying to secure £6 million towards the cost of this section.
