Estuary Pilot Laid to Rest

It was shortly after 10.30am on Sunday morning that lifeboats from the Sharpness Station began their sad journey down the estuary towards Sheperdine. On this calm and sunny morning SARA2 carried the ashes of Dave Moore, estuary pilot and long time crewman at SARA's Sharpness Station. Also making their way to Sheperdine were two lifeboats from the SARA Beachley Station.

As they approached the old house on the shore near to Sheperdine where Dave had lived as a lad, the boats slowly edged towards the shore and dropped anchor. A few people had gathered on the shore, one person with a posy of flowers which later was placed in the water. On the boats a simple poem was read by Jim Hewitt followed by a minutes silence. Then the sad time for Helen Moore to scatter Dave's ashes on the River Severn, a river he had grown up on and worked on for most of his life.
