River Boat Tradgedy

Last evening a 20ft cruiser got into difficulties as it cruised along the Severn at Stourport and subsequently capsized. Sadly a woman who became trapped inside the boat died later in Worcester Hospital. She had been recovered unconscious by members of the public who had smashed their way into the boat.

Fifteen other passengers either swam to the bank or were helped ashore by rescuers. They were then taken to Kidderminster Hospital for treatment.

The cruiser, named SWEETIE PIE, had been seen earlier cruising up and down the river. The police said that three people have been arrested, a man and two women, following this tragic accident. They have not ruled out the possiblity that the boat may have been overloaded.
