New Plans for the Severn

At last the long awaited £1.9M plan to turn Lydney Docks into a thriving modern marina were unveiled in a formal planning application by the Environment Agency. For far too long Lydney Docks has remained unused and desperate for something to happen.

If planning consent is given by the Forest of Dean District Council then this ancient dock will have room for 80 pleasure boats.

Another exciting project announced today was a planned visitor centre sited at Sharpness on the opposite side of the estuary. This centre could be on the scale of the world famous Eden Centre in Cornwall which currently attracts thousands of visitors each year.

If both schemes come to fruition then it makes a good case to build another bridge over the Severn linking Sharpness and Lydney.
